Mon Sept 29 - Portraits & Peculiar People
Get ready to face your creativity head-on! Today’s all about portraits with a twist, from fruit and veggie Renaissance-inspired self-portraits to bold 3D creations that tell a story.
Morning Session – Arcimboldo Fruity Faces
Channel your inner fruit bowl! In this peculiar portrait workshop, budding artists will explore the wonderfully weird world of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, the Renaissance artist who built faces entirely from fruits, vegetables, and plants! We’ll design our own fruit-and-veg-inspired self-portraits using layered watercolour and drawing techniques, discovering how everyday objects can be transformed into expressive, unexpected artworks!Afternoon Session – Framed Paper Relief Portraits
In the afternoon, we’ll shift into 3D, building layered portraits from coloured card, paper, collage, and foam tape. Inspired by artists like Frida Kahlo, we’ll explore how framing, background symbols, and visual layering can add deeper meaning to a portrait. Each budding artist will go home with a bold, layered creation that celebrates identity, imagination, and self-expression.By the end of the day, you’ll have a pair of portraits that are as original and expressive as the person who made them … you!
-
Tue Sept 30 - Eye-Spy: Illusions, Colour & Hidden Drawings
Get ready to see the world differently! In this visually playful, STEM-inspired art workshop, we’ll explore how colour, light, and lenses can trick the eye — and how artists can use that to create magical illusions and layered drawings. From wearable sculpture to secret images, this day is full of discovery and wonder.
Morning Session – Build Your Art Glasses
We’ll start by designing and building a pair of custom art glasses with interchangeable coloured lenses. Look super fly in your new specs — but also, when you look through them, they’ll reveal or hide different parts of your drawings depending on which colours you use! Once the glasses are built, we’ll test how different colours react. Viewed normally, you’ll see everything; viewed through your lenses, half the image will vanish.Afternoon Session – Illusion Art & Secret Messages
In the afternoon, we’ll apply our optical tricks to a larger layered drawing of an eye, with secret images or messages hidden in plain sight. Focus on contrast, line weight, and placement to control what appears and disappears. You might create two versions of a scene, a hidden world inside a pupil, or even a drawing with a puzzle built in.A mind-bending day of art, illusion, colour, and creativity — perfect for visual thinkers, tinkerers, and anyone who loves to ask “what if?”

Wed Oct 1 - Trading Cards & Self Sculptures

We’ll explore mini-format design, layout, and eye-catching detail, then laminate each card for a polished, collectible finish. One special card will be your own Artist Trading Card, a playful self-portrait that shows off your unique style and artistic superpower.Afternoon Session – Character Self Sculptures
Using a Polaroid selfie as a starting point, students will build a playful, expressive sculpture of themselves using wire, tape, cardboard, paper and collage. Each figure will stand tall, full of gesture and attitude, dressed and decorated with personality-packed details. Wings? Capes? Octopus arms? You bet!A seriously silly day of drawing, sculpting, and turning your creative self into art in 2D and 3D.

Maybe it’s a dragon tooth, part of an old treasure map, a vial of giant tears, fairy wings, or something else entirely!Afternoon Session – Acrylic Painting on Canvas
In the afternoon, students will learn foundational acrylic painting techniques as they paint a moody still life from observation. Their scene will include a selection of provided objects alongside one of their handmade curiosities, telling a story through shadow, texture, and composition. These workshops are a little different to our regular Art Club days! They take extra time and care to plan, organise and run, and we keep ticket numbers smaller so there’s more space and attention for each budding artist.
The making and concepts are also a bit more complex, plus they are full days only, so these sessions are designed especially for ages 8 & up. For these reasons, discounts aren’t available on Special Edition workshops. -
We prioritise facilitating a creative, respectful and positive environment for all students. Disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. We follow a restorative practice approach, encouraging students to reflect on their actions and make amends. While we always aim to guide students gently back on track, if a child continues to struggle with this after a few reminders, we'll reach out to parents to discuss the best way forward and may ask you to pick up your child early. Our goal is to support every student in having a great experience!
-
We understand coming to Art Club can be overwhelming for some budding artists - you're most welcome to stay until they feel settled!
From there, we encourage children to participate independently in our classes. This helps foster their creativity and self confidence. We want all students to feel comfortable in our classes. Our instructors are experienced in creating a welcoming and nurturing environment for everyone!
If you'd like to chat further, we'd love to hear from you! Any further info to help us make our Art Club the best experience for your child is very welcome! Please don't hesitate to get in touch. -
