Step inside the studio of a curious collector… You! Explore the strange and wonderful world of curiosities - objects that are part treasure, part mystery. We’ll spend the morning creating our own artefacts using mixed media and imagination, then paint a still life including skulls, hourglasses, and your own curious objects, captured using acrylic on canvas.
Morning Session – Make Your Own Curiosities Inspired by old-world cabinets of curiosity, students will create a collection of strange and intriguing items using a variety of mixed media materials. Some will be sealed inside jars and labelled, others will be left loose as relics or mysterious mini artefacts. Maybe it’s a dragon tooth, part of an old treasure map, a vial of giant tears, fairy wings, or something else entirely!
Afternoon Session – Acrylic Painting on Canvas In the afternoon, students will learn foundational acrylic painting techniques as they paint a moody still life from observation. Their scene will include a selection of provided objects alongside one of their handmade curiosities, telling a story through shadow, texture, and composition. Students will sketch, block in shapes, mix colours, and explore light and dark to bring their curious collection to life on canvas.
We cannot wait to see the curious things you create from the wildest parts of your imagination!
