Let’s draw out your inner artist! Charcoal is a favourite of many famous artists for a reason! Bold, dramatic, and perfect for creating both delicate details and deep shadows. Join us for a focused yet playful day of drawing, where we’ll learn how to see like an artist and use line, tone, and shadow to make our drawings come alive.
Morning Session – Drawing Games & Your Book of Experiments We’ll warm up with playful charcoal drawing games and collaborative challenges to loosen our hands and sharpen our eyes. You’ll experiment with line, tone, smudging, lifting, and proportion recording your favourite effects in a mini “Charcoal Experiments” book to take home. This will become your own little library of textures and tricks for future art adventures.
Afternoon Session – The Spooky House Drawing Challenge In the afternoon, we’ll put our charcoal skills to work on one big, dramatic scene: a spooky house drawing. We’ll use building-block shapes to construct the house, then layer in eerie details like twisted trees (drawn with your opposite hand for extra wobbly creepiness), mysterious shadows, and glowing windows. A putty eraser will become our “light brush,” lifting creatures, faces, or flickers of light out from the darkness.
Look closely, draw boldly, and make just the right amount of mess to bring your ideas to life!
