Things aren’t always what they seem! Today we’ll explore the fascinating world of optical illusions — artworks that confuse the brain and make flat drawings look three-dimensional, twisted, or even impossible.

Through drawing, collage and sculpture, budding artists will discover how artists use perspective, pattern and clever design to create images that make us look twice.

We’ll begin the day by experimenting with impossible drawings — artworks that appear realistic at first glance but reveal something puzzling the longer you look. We’ll also explore Op Art illusion weaving, where strips of coloured paper are carefully layered and woven together to create shifting patterns that appear to bend, ripple and move across the page.

In the afternoon we’ll take illusions into three dimensions. Using folded paper and perspective drawing, budding artists will create reverse perspective sculptures - artworks that stand tall yet appear to pop back into the distance when viewed front on or from different angles.

From mysterious hallways to dramatic city streets, each piece becomes a sculptural illusion where flat drawings transform into surprising optical tricks
