Get ready to face your creativity head-on! Today’s all about portraits with a twist, from fruity and veggie Renaissance-inspired self-portraits to bold 3D creations that tell a story
Morning Session – Arcimboldo Fruity Faces
Channel your inner fruit bowl! In this peculiar portrait workshop, budding artists will explore the wonderfully weird world of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, the Renaissance artist who built faces entirely from fruits, vegetables, and plants! We’ll design our own fruit-and-veg-inspired self-portraits using layered watercolour and drawing techniques, discovering how everyday objects can be transformed into expressive, unexpected artworks!
Afternoon Session – Framed Paper Relief Portraits
In the afternoon, we’ll shift into 3D, building layered portraits from coloured card, paper, collage, and foam tape. Inspired by artists like Frida Kahlo, we’ll explore how framing, background symbols, and visual layering can add deeper meaning to a portrait. Each budding artist will go home with a bold, layered creation that celebrates identity, imagination, and self-expression.
By the end of the day, you’ll have a pair of portraits that are as original and expressive as the person who made them — you!
