Graphic Recording

Graphic Recording

Graphic recording, also known as visual scribing or live illustration, is the process of capturing conversations, presentations and ideas in real time through a combination of illustrations, symbols and text.

More than simply documenting what's being said, graphic recording involves actively listening, interpreting and synthesising information to identify key messages, highlight connections and translate complex ideas into engaging visual summaries.

By combining words and imagery, graphic recording offers an alternative way to engage with information, supporting understanding, accessibility and memory retention while encouraging audiences to connect with the content.

Ideal for conferences, panel discussions, workshops and community events, each recording becomes a unique visual resource that can be revisited, shared and enjoyed long after the event has finished.

Turning conversations into visual stories!

How does it work?

Ruby joins your event, listening, interpreting and bringing key ideas to life as they unfold. Combining illustration, typography and visual storytelling, she transforms conversations into a unique digital artwork in real time!

Each recording can be tailored to your event's themes, colours and branding, with some creative elements prepared in advance.

After the event, Ruby adds the finishing touches, with an opportunity for feedback before the artwork is finalised.

Who is the artist?

Meet Ruby Chew! A practising visual artist, illustrator, educator and university tutor with over 15 years of experience in the arts and education.

With a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) and Master of Teaching, Ruby combines her artistic practice with an understanding of how people learn, engage with and retain information. This informs her approach to creating engaging visual records that support accessibility, understanding and connection.

What kinds of events are suitable?

Conferences, panel discussions, presentations, workshops, community consultations, strategic planning sessions and more!

Whether you're sharing knowledge or exploring new ideas, graphic recording offers a creative way to capture and communicate what matters.

What will we receive?

A high-resolution, unique digital artwork capturing the key ideas and conversations from your event!

Your finished artwork can be supplied in a range of formats and file types, ready to share with participants, publish online, include in reports and presentations, or print for display. A lasting visual resource to enjoy long after your event!

What does it look like at the event?

Ruby works digitally on her iPad, bringing the artwork to life as your event unfolds. We're flexible with the setup to suit your event's space and aesthetic.

The artwork can also be displayed live as it develops, with a range of projection and screen options available. We're happy to work with organisers, venues and AV teams to find the best setup for your event.

Graphic recording can happen quietly behind the scenes, but it can also spark conversations! During breaks and after the event, participants can explore the artwork, reflect on the ideas captured and share their own perspectives.

How do we book, and what do you need from us?

Tell us a little about your event using the form below, including the date, location and duration.

We'll discuss your goals, event format, key themes and any branding requirements before providing a tailored quote.

On the day, all Ruby needs is a table, chair and a position where she can clearly see and hear the speakers. We're happy to coordinate with you or your venue to arrange what's required.
